UArizona SME ends each school year with the annual Operators’ BBQ event designed to celebrate our sponsors, induct our new officers, and reunite members of the industry. This is a great opportunity not only for the mining community, but also the chapter to come together and celebrate the end of the year!

2024 SX Operators’ BBQ
2023 SX Operators’ BBQ
On April 22nd, the 27th annual Operators’ BBQ ran from 10:00 AM to 3:00 PM and included a barbecue lunch, tours of the student mine, a haul truck piñata, and a mining games competition. Last years event organizer and Vice President, Sundari Udall, collected sponsorships to ensure that the BBQ would be free for all attendees. Because of the sponsors and a few generous donors, the free event actually raised well over $500 for the chapter! Over 150 people attended!
A message from last years Vice President:
“The SX BBQ is our time to connect with alumni and thank the various sponsors we had throughout the year, as well as induct the upcoming officer team for 2023-2024. We had around 150 students, alumni, staff, and family come and join us for food, games, and tours of our student mine. It was a huge success and I look forward to attending as an alumni in the future to see the next generation of SME!“ - Sundari Udall
